Mississippi Aquarium offers exciting opportunities for youth in grades K-5 to explore the brown, blue and beyond through educational outreach programs for summer camps, schools, groups and more! Our Aquarium Education Specialists will bring STEAM based, hands-on educational, entertaining and interactive learning to your classrooms, libraries and community centers. Programs are designed for children of varying ages and abilities.

Mississippi Aquarium can now travel to your classroom, thanks to our community partners! We partnered with Chevron and The Bacot McCarty Foundation to purchase a vehicle for Education Outreach. This new program called "Aquarium in Motion" was designed to bring the Aquarium to students throughout the state. We are grateful for community partners like Chevron and Bacot McCarty to help us reach these goals.

Animal Locomotion

Students will investigate and demonstrate the many ways that animals move, including walking, running, jumping, hopping and more.

Adapt and Survive with Sharks

Students will learn about the adaptations of sharks and their relatives that have allowed them to persist for millions of years, along with their critical role in marine ecosystems.

Life Cycles

By using models and biofacts, this lesson will further students' understanding of the similarities and differences in the lifecycle of plants and animals.

The Web of Life

Students will learn about the roles of the sun, producers, consumers and decomposers in the energy cycle of ecosystems.

This lesson will explore the adaptations and unique characteristics of snakes, lizards, crocodilians, turtles and more.

Stem Enriching Activities in School (SEAS) Grades 6-8

Animal Adaptations and Natural Selection

Students will investigate the adaptations that animals need to survive in an aquatic habitat and will explore the link between adaptations and natural selection.

Animal Care and Enrichment

Mississippi Aquarium staff work hard to maintain the physical and mental well-being of our animals. Students will explore how we do this through veterinary care and enrichment and even help us create enrichment items!

Marine Debris

Students will gain an understanding of the sources and impacts of marine debris on the environment. As well as, investigate solutions to this issue using the scientific method.

Future Innovators in Research, Science and Technology (FIRST) Grades 9-12

Population Growth

Students will investigate different types of population growth and the various factors that prevent exponential growth in natural populations.

Biodiversity

Students will learn how energy is transferred through trophic levels of an ecosystem and the critical role of biodiversity in maintaining ecosystem health.

Animal Interactions and Group Behavior

Students will learn about the many symbiotic and co-evolutionary interactions between organisms and investigate the costs and benefits of group behavior.
