About the Experience

This one-day immersive marine science education experience for 6-12 grade students will introduce students to their local habitats while allowing them to conduct hands-on marine science data collection. Students will learn fundamental concepts of marine and atmospheric science in the context of the Mississippi Sound coastal environments and ecosystems, while engaging in hands-on activities that demonstrate the collection of marine and atmospheric science data. This will take place aboard a Ship Island Ferry in the Mississippi Sound and at Ship Island.
Accessibility: Students will need to be able to spend the day in the sun and heat while using sampling equipment on Ship Island.

Equipment and supplies
Lunch
MSU, NGI and MSAQ educators and staff

OBJECTIVES:

Introduce participating students to fundamental concepts of marine and atmospheric science in the context of the Mississippi Sound coastal environments and ecosystems.
Demonstrate ongoing research being conducted in the Mississippi Sound by MSU and Mississippi Aquarium scientists.
Guide participating students in hands-on activities that demonstrate the collection of marine and atmospheric science data.
Introduce students to career paths in marine and atmospheric science.
