Toxic Beauty: Plastic's Hidden Cost

Take a deep dive into plastic’s hidden cost with Toxic Beauty.

Exhibit is included with General Admission to Mississippi Aquarium and FREE for Mississippi Aquarium Annual Passholders.

On your adventure through Mississippi Aquarium, explore pieces of art created by students and local collaborators using pieces of plastic collected from beach clean ups across the Gulf.

The initiative is led by Dr. Kristina Mojica, associate professor in marine science in the School of Ocean Science and Engineering at the University of Southern Mississippi, and Rachel Lancaster, a marine science doctoral student, as part of a National Science Foundation-funded research project.

Approximately 3,000 pounds of debris were collected along the Gulf Coast to support the project.

Visitors to Mississippi Aquarium can engage with these pieces in iSpy activities, interactive exhibits, and learn ways they can make a difference in their everyday lives.

This exhibit is in partnership with The University of Southern Mississippi’s School of Ocean Science and Engineering and local collaborators.
