Animal Care

Aquarist

The position requires a highly motivated individual who will work in a team setting and take direction from the Curators, Managers, Area Supervisors and/or Vice President of Animal Care and Conservation in carrying out the animal care routine and maintenance for an assigned set of habitats and/or holding tanks. The position will also be responsible for maintaining organized written records pertaining to health, feeding, water quality, animal welfare and behavioral observations. This position is responsible for adhering to all aquarium safety, protocols, standard operating procedures (SOPs) and Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) accreditation standards.

Associate Aquarist

Associate Animal Care Specialist, Animal Ambassador

The successful candidate will be working with a variety of species including penguins, sloth, turtles, snakes, and several other bird species. Facility Operations

Facility Operator

The position reports to the Manager of Facility Operations. The Facility Operator is responsible for performing equipment maintenance tasks, cleaning, and general labor pertaining to animal life support systems and building mechanical systems. The ability to make accurate assessments of filter status and the cleaning schedule of filters is essential. Basic operational knowledge of building maintenance and mechanical systems is necessary for this position.

Water Quality Environmental Lab Technician

The position reports to the Director of Facility Operations. The Water Quality & Environmental Lab technician is expected to perform all aspects of the Water Quality Laboratory including sample testing, quality control, data interpretation, data entry as well as aide in troubleshooting and correction of parameters. The technician is to assist in developing relevant SOPs and protocols, maintain and calibrate equipment, stock laboratory supplies, and aid in Mississippi Aquarium research & development. The position supports Facility Operations, Animal Care and Veterinary Services to provide the highest environmental quality for the animal collection of the Mississippi Aquarium.

Sales & Marketing

Booking Specialist

The booking specialist works as part of Mississippi Aquarium's Sales and Marketing Department to secure educational, group and hotel bookings. This position works with guests to enhance the overall visitor experience. This person must be a strategic, analytic thinker that works well in a team environment, takes direction, and manages projects with limited supervision. This person must interact directly and collaborate with the Vice President of Sales and Marketing, the sales and marketing team, senior management, Guest Experience, and Animal Care staff throughout the Aquarium.

Ticketing Ambassador

Ticket Ambassadors are the first team members to interact with guests. Ambassadors warmly greet and assist guests with purchases as well as scan tickets and membership cards at Entry Plaza. They serve as a welcoming team member for all guests entering and help maintain crowd control.

Visitor Programs & Interpretations

Interpreter II

Interpreters communicate the stories of our natural and cultural resources in zoos, aquariums, and park settings, facilitation opportunities of discovery, and understanding about the world around us. Therefore, interpreters act as the bridge to connect guests to these resources through meaningful, inspiring experiences. Our mission at the Mississippi Aquarium is to be a premier institution delivering an awe-inspiring entertainment experience that supports animal research and conservation, inspires learning, and instills a passion for the aquatic world. The Interpreter II will enhance the guest experience at the Mississippi Aquarium by teaching about the habitats and animals found in Mississippi, the Gulf Coast, and beyond. Qualified individuals should have extensive experience in public speaking and a high level of comfort in interpreting static and live exhibits as well as presenting presentations, tours, and educational programs. The Interpreter II will interact with guests of all ages and diverse backgrounds as well as work alongside the other members of the Guest Experience and Education Team.

Manager of Volunteer Programs

The Manager of Volunteer Programs is a position that oversees Mississippi Aquarium’s Volunteer Department. The Manager of Volunteer Programs will build a strong core of volunteers by working closely with the community and ensuring retention. This position requires initiative, creativity, and strength in program development. The Manager of Volunteer Programs will work closely with other members of the Guest Experience & Education Department.
