Position Title: Ticketing Cashier

Department: Sales and Marketing

Classification: Full-Time, Non-Exempt  

Direct Report: Ticketing Manager

Position Summary

Ticketing Cashiers serve as the primary entrance team members for all guests entering Mississippi Aquarium. They warmly greet visitors, sell and collect admission tickets, communicate information pleasantly and deliver excellent customer service. Ability to work a flexible work schedule including nights, weekends and holidays is required.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent experience.
  • Previous cashier and Point of Sale (POS) experience is required.
  • Basic math and computer skills, along with eagerness to learn is a must.
  • Experience working in retail, hotel, restaurant or tourism attractions preferred.
  • Excellent customer service skills, communication skills, and a happy attitude are essential.
  • Helpful, courteous approach to resolving complaints especially during stressful situations.
  • Ability to sit and/or stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion at all times.
  • Ability to communicate clearly to a wide variety of customers and overcome language barriers.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment background check and drug screening.
  • Must be over the age of 18 and have reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

  • Greets all Aquarium Members and guests with a cheerful smile and warm welcome as they arrive and a courteous farewell when they leave to provide a positive experience; addresses members/guests by name whenever possible.  
  • Sells daily admission tickets using cash register and Point of Sale systems, scans tickets, processes credit card transactions, verifies identification, sells experiences and upsells new memberships daily while following proper cash handling procedures. Assists guest with checkout at self-serve kiosk as needed.
  • Assists customers with special services, i.e. gift certificate purchases, large group reservations, field trip check in, purchase orders, etc.
  • Accurately counts and records money and credit card sales at the end of the day. Reconciles cash drawer.
  • Answers questions about the Aquarium, tickets, experiences, memberships and special events.
  • Notifies supervisor of any potential safety or visitor concerns as necessary.
  • Maintains ticket queuing area – set up the stanchions and signage inside and outside the facility.
  • Maintains a friendly, neat, and professional appearance in accordance with MS Aquarium Image.
