Position Title: Staff Accountant

Department: Finance and Human Resources

Classification: Exempt

Direct Report: Finance Manager

Position Summary

The Staff Accountant serves as a key member of the Finance Department and is primarily responsible for General Ledger transactions. This position will report to and work closely with the Finance Manager and Vice President of Finance and Human Resources to grow the business responsibly, in a profitable and sustainable manner.

  • Knowledge of GAAP required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, primarily Excel and Word.
  • Knowledge of Mississippi state procurement law a plus.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment background check and drug test.


  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
  • 2 to 5 years of Accounting experience, preferred.
  • Non-profit and/or government funding experience a plus.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of professionalism, integrity, and confidentiality.
  • Ability to prioritize and shift tasks to meet deadline requirements.


  • Responsible for daily accounting functions, including but not limited to cash receipts, accounts payable and receivable, check runs, etc.
  • Perform month, quarter, and year end close processes as assigned.
  • Be heavily involved in reconciliation processes, investigating variances or misdirected activity, and initiating correction of errors.
  • Assist in maintaining department files and records.
  • Prepare monthly accounts receivable reports, and forward to necessary departments.
  • Reconcile Purchase Orders and communicate with departments regarding status.
  • Assist in preparation of schedules, analyses, and support data for reporting purposes.
  • Develop and recommend process improvements that streamline and maximize efficiencies in accordance with internal controls.
  • Research and resolve issues for assigned tasks and escalate necessary problems in a timely manner.
