Position Title: Finance Manager

Department: Executive

Classification: Exempt

Direct Report: Vice President of Finance

Position Summary

The Finance Manager oversees the organization’s Accounting, Purchasing and during start up Human Resources functions. This role will report to and work closely with the Vice President of Finance to develop and implement systems for processing, collecting, analyzing, verifying, and reporting the organization’s financial and human resources information.

Position Attributes

  • Proven working experience as Finance Manager, Accounting Manager, or Accounting Supervisor
  • Possess general office software, particularly the Microsoft Office Suite and accounting software and use of databases
  • Ability to manipulate large amounts of data
  • Proven knowledge of bookkeeping and accounting principles, practices, standards, laws and regulations
  • Working knowledge of required documents and reporting requirements employers must maintain for employees of the company
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Create and assess financial statements and budget documents
  • Supervise and develop staff, including regular progress reviews and plans for improvement
  • Communicate effectively in both written and verbal form

Qualifications

  • Accounting degree mandatory
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience, ideally with at least 3 years in an accounting management role
  • Experienced either as an employee of a nonprofit organization; must be familiar with nonprofit finance and accounting in accordance with GAAP.
  • Excellent analytical skills

  • Ability to influence and engage direct and indirect reports and peers
  • Self-reliant, a good problem solver, and results oriented
  • Exceptional written, oral, interpersonal, and presentation skills and the ability to effectively interface with senior management

Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee the daily operations of the accounting department including month and end-year process, accounts payable/receivable, cash receipts, general ledger, payroll vouchers, fixed asset management,  check runs, etc.
  • Monitor and reconcile banking activities of the organization
  • Ensure accounting methods are in accordance with GAAP and organizations policies and procedures are enforced
  • Monitor and analyze accounting data in terms of budget variances, prior year variances, etc.
  • Produce financial reports or statements. This could include, but is not limited to statement of cash flow, organizational revenue/expense and balance sheet reports,  reports to funding agencies, development and monitoring of organizational and contract/grant budgets. This includes all filings (City, State, Federal, 990’s, sales tax, etc.) are filed on time and accurately
  • Oversee purchasing and contract management
  • Oversee 3rd party HR administrator and ensure all HR required documents and reporting are properly filed with the appropriate government agencies and retained for any compliance audits or inquiry
  • Assist in the coordination and activities of independent auditors, ensuring all audit issues are resolved, and all compliance issues are met, and the preparation of the annual financial statements are in accordance with U.S. GAAP and federal, state and other required supplementary schedules and information
