Direct Report: Vice President, Sales and Marketing

Position Summary

The Director of Sales is a supervisory position that contributes to the success of Mississippi Aquarium and its financial sustainability by raising awareness of the Aquarium and helping to generate increased attendance and revenue through ticket and membership sales. The position will contribute to the development of the membership program, group sales, corporate sales, hotel and convention sales, and leisure sales strategies. The position will lead the sales team to meet specific sales goals.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing or management
  • Minimum 10 years of sales management experience, preferably in the hospitality industry
  • Organize and prioritize work to meet deadlines, goals
  • Ability to solicit, close and retain business
  • Attention to detail with strong verbal, writing and editing skills
  • Ability to perform work accurately and thoroughly
  • Ability to effectively build relationships with clients, guests and colleagues
  • Ability to effectively present information publicly
  • Ability to accept responsibility and account for his/her actions
  • Knowledge of sales channels and markets
  • Flexible work schedule including nights, weekends and holidays and travel
  • Ability to maintain a high level of professionalism, standards, integrity and confidentiality
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products and customer management software

Responsibilities

  • Develop a sales plan that will increase attendance and drive revenue through ticket and membership sales
  • Develop sales strategies and tactics to support the marketing plan; Continually evaluate the competition, remain knowledgeable of their pricing strategy and incorporate this knowledge into the sales strategies and tactics to ensure sales goals are met  
  • Assist the Vice President of Sales and Marketing in the creation and execution of sales programs, sales operating standards, training and implementation of procedures and compensation packages
  • Develop and implement comprehensive initiatives and campaigns to promote growth through ticket and membership sales
  • Work closely with the marketing team to develop content for all sales collateral including but not limited to sales kits, brochures, emails, promotional items and gifts, sales related PR and communication initiatives
  • Participate in the management of effective on-going marketing and communications plans
  • Establish and manage systems for sales and lead generation to include CRM, trade/consumer shows and traditional sales efforts
  • Assume ownership and manage sales budgets and sales reporting
  • Act as lead for sales team; provide oversight, training and guidance for direct reports
  • Generate new business and support existing business in all relevant sales channels including special interest groups, conventions and meetings, educational groups and demonstrate mastery within each of the sales channels
  • Represent the Aquarium at various trade and travel shows and professional groups
  • Manage the department’s trade show, sales trip and customer event calendar
  • Develop and nurture strategic partnerships within the travel and tourism industry including but not limited to statewide/regional convention and visitors’ bureaus, tourism associations, motor coach associations and hotel and lodging associations to promote the Aquarium as a premier attraction in the state
  • Handle priority sales accounts, identify and assign market segments and new accounts to sales team
  • Conduct regular sales meetings with team to discuss pipeline, goals and upcoming opportunities
  • Routinely review departmental communications, sales proposals, contracts and recommends improvements
  • Implement and manage affiliate accounts
  • Initiate client surveys and analyze results
