GULFPORT, November 16, 2017 – Today, representatives of the Mississippi Aquarium and members of the project’s design team joined officials from the Gulfport Redevelopment Commission and the City of Gulfport to open bids for the General Contractor - Main Building Package for the aquarium. The apparent low bidder as read is Roy Anderson Corporation with a bid of $52,133,000.
David Kimmel, President and CEO of the Mississippi Aquarium said, “The next step is to analyze the bids to confirm the lowest, most responsive and responsible bidder. We are excited that the apparent low bidder is a local company who will utilize our local workforce.”
The contract includes construction of the buildings that comprise the Aquarium’s distinctive campus-style design, preliminary build-out of the interior and exterior exhibits, and installation of key structures, including the entry fountains featuring the 65-foot tall iconic sails. Theming for the exhibits will be completed under a separate contract which is anticipated to bid early 2018.
The bid review process will begin immediately. It is anticipated that a Notice to Proceed will be issued in January 2018.
The Mississippi Aquarium is a nonprofit 501c3 organization whose mission is to be a premier institution delivering an awe-inspiring entertainment experience which supports animal research and conservation, inspires learning and instills a passion for the aquatic wonders of the Gulf and beyond. The Aquarium is anticipated to open its doors in late 2019/early 2020.
